For a while now, Nick and I have been working on a Linux build of our own, using OpenSuse. We’ve decided (or I’ve decided) that it’s time to publicly release our build.

As usual, when I went to Staples (as other stores featuring technology, and yes Staples does feature technology), I got sidetracked from finding a calculator (the TI 30xIIs) and went to a rack holding installation disks and guides to Windows 8. Being courteous to all platforms, I picked it up and read through and and looked at screenshots. Wanting to test out the capability of Windows 8 (and RT), I walked over to an aisle featuring the new Lenovo ThinkPad. The ThinkPad is pretty much, in my mind, a mediocre hybrid tablet/laptop. It seemed to have the specs of either a bad or lower-end laptop with 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, but then again Windows 8 ran smoothly however it seemed a bit clunky, the weight as well as the price. When the attached keyboard was folded on the back of the screen, it seemed too thick to be aesthetically satisfying at the least (but this is just my opinion), and in my mind it was just a slight upgrade from the Microsoft Surface (which just bombed overall) but almost twice the price. Who’s ever heard of a barely meeting par tablet being $899.99?
